After graduating from Iowa Falls High School , Iowa Falls, Iowa in May 1969 and while attending Ellsworth Junior College , Robert Hill received his draft notice for the U. S. Army.  Not caring for the color green he chose to follow in his Uncle’s footsteps and joined the U. S. Navy in January 1971. 

     While Attending Recruit Training in San Diego , California he was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps.  Following his graduation from Personnelman Class “A” School he was assigned to Fighter Squadron ELEVEN at Oceana , Virginia aboard the USS FORRESTAL (CVA 59).  While a member of the “Red Rippers” he completed 2 major deployments  to the Mediterranean and advanced from Seaman Apprentice to Petty Officer Second Class prior to his transfer in August 1974 to Personnelman Class “C” School in San Diego, California. 

     Following his successful completion of the Classification and Interviewing School “C School” he reported to Naval Recruiting District, Minneapolis , Minnesota where he served as an Enlisted Classifier advancing to Petty Officer First Class.  Sensing the “grass was greener on the other side” he was released from active duty in August 1978.  He immediately joined the Naval Reserve and drilled in a variety of assignments in  Minnesota and Iowa .

     While he was “tasting” civilian life he was the Director of Marketing for Ark Books Publishing Company, President of  Landmark Books, Inc. and owner of Providence Printing in New Providence , Iowa .  During this time frame he also wrote and had published four books and taught  professional writer’s seminars in Minnesota and Iowa .

     In May 1985 he was recalled to active duty as a Canvasser Recruiter at Naval & Marine Corps Reserve Center , Waterloo , Iowa .  During his tour at N&MCRC Waterloo, Iowa he was Readiness Command Region Sixteen's Veteran and Sea and Air Mariner Recruiter of the Year for 1986.

     Among his varied field and staff assignments he served as a Recruiter and Zone Supervisor  in Waterloo, Iowa;  Field Trainer, Senior Trainer, and Chief Recruiter at Naval Reserve Recruiting Command Detachment TWO in Great Lakes, IL;  Senior Instructor and Director of Training for Commander, Naval Reserve Recruiting Command, New Orleans, Louisiana; and as Master Chief of the Detachment for Naval Reserve Recruiting Command Detachment ONE in Alameda, California.

     In June 1994 he converted to Navy Counselor via the Naval Reserve Career Recruiting Force and was promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer in April 1996.  He has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Three awards), Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon (2 awards), Battle “E”  Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (Four awards), Naval Reserve Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Medal (Two awards), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy Recruiting Service Ribbon (Three awards), Armed Forces Reserve Medal,  the Expert Pistol and Rifle Medals and over 30awards of the Gold Wreath Award for Excellence in Recruiting.

     After his retirement from the Navy in 1998 Robert went to work for IBMs Catapult Software training company as the Operations Manager for the Minneapolis District.  In 2000 he went to work for VetJobs.com as a Regional Sales Manager.  In 2001 he went back to school at Upper Iowa University where he graduated in 2003 Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Human Resources.  While attending Upper Iowa he worked as the Parish Administrative Coordinator and Webmaster for Trinity Episcopal Parish.  He worked as a Staffing Associate for City and National Employment in Waterloo , Iowa from August 2003 to August 2005.  He is currently working at UNI Credit Union as a Loan Offier/Webmaster/IT Guy and Marketing Guru.
