Norma Nehring,
age 88, of Iowa Falls, died on Wednesday, November 01, 2006 at the
Scenic Manor Nursing Home in Iowa Falls. Funeral services are 11:00
a.m. Saturday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls with
visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the
Keystone Cemetery in Keystone.
Norma Amanda Brauer Nehring was born January 22, 1918 in Guttenburg,
Iowa, the daughter of Albert H. and Anna (Ortman) Werner. Norma grew
up in Allison and received her early education there graduating from
Allison High School in 1935. Following her graduation she attended
Iowa Normal School in Cedar Falls to receive her teaching
certificate. Norma taught country school until her marriage to
Albert H. Brauer on June 2, 1940 at St. John Lutheran Church in
Keystone, Iowa by Rev. Albert W. Brauer.
Residing in various communities, Norma and Al raised three children
while he pursued his career in school administration. In 1954, while
in Hubbard, her husband, Supt. A.H. Brauer passed away. Norma
returned to teaching, and at the same time attended summer school
and evening classes at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls,
to complete a B.A. degree in education. Norma and her children moved
to Iowa Falls in 1958 where she taught 5th grade and remedial
reading until her retirement in 1983.
On July 13, 1968, Norma was married to Arthur C. Nehring at the
Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls and lived in Iowa Falls until
Arthur's death August 5, 1995. Norma remained involved with church,
community and professional activities until health issues required
her to move to Scenic Manor in 2000.
Norma was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she served on
several committees, Delta Kappa
Dennis L. Brauer
and his wife Martha of Hayward, WI. ; a daughter, Carol J. Deal of
Batavia, IL.; 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her parents, both spouses and three brothers.
