| Biographical Information:
I graduated from Iowa State University in Agricultural Education in 1973. I taught one year at Dexfield Community Schools and 4 years at Kanawha Community Schools before coming to Estherville to teach in 1978. I married LeeLannee Thilges in 1973. In addition to over 34 years in education, I have served as President of the Iowa Vocational Association (now Iowa Association for Career and Technical Education) and the Iowa Association of Agricultural Educators. I have been an active member of the NEA, ISEA, IACTE, NACTE, NAAE and IAAE and am currently state committee chairperson for the Protecting Member Rights Committee for ISEA. I have served as president of our local teachers association and have been the chief negotiator for our teachers association for over 17 years. I am nearing retirement and was eligible for early retirement last year. I plan on going a few more years before I hang up my textbooks and put away my chalk but as long as I enjoy what I am doing I will keep it up for a couple of more years. I started a new class in biotechnology at our high school this year and have picked up my endorsement in biological science so that I can teach in the science curriculum and students can earn science credits for the classes that I teach. We purchased over $26,000 of biotechnology equipment and have a well equipped lab that has much of the same equipment that you would see in any commercial facility in the United States, expect on a smaller scale. I enjoy following ISU sports and am a season ticket holder for ISU football. I sit in section 19, row 42 if anyone else makes an ISU home game. Stop by and say hello to my wife and I. There is also a possibility that my youngest son may be there as well, as he also has a season ticket to ISU football games and sits with us. I enjoy working on cars and my pride an joy is my 1970 Chevelle SS 396. I guess I am still a gear head at heart and have put over $3,500 into the engine (only runs on race fuel). We also have a 2002 Monte Carlo SS and a 1993 Z27 Camero with only 3,600 miles on it. My sons also share the love of muscle cars and have two Monte Carlo SS's, a 1968 Impala SS, a 1969 Chevelle SS 396 and a 1987 Z28 Camero. They sure beat that 1962 Chevrolet four door with a six cylinder automatic that I drove in high school and throughout college.
