I taught American Literature
and Practical English during the 1967-1968 academic year when you
were juniors at IFHS. It was my first year teaching, and we had some
interesting discussions about everything from Transcendentalism
(remember Emerson and Thoreau) to how to write the term paper for
Mr. Corbin's history class.
Gary Yocum, my husband, was your junior high band director. He is a
retired school administrator now. We lived in Iowa Falls from
1965-1974. After teaching seven years at IFHS and twenty-three years
at Anson Middle School in Marshalltown, I took early retirement and
moved into teaching in higher education (M.S. and Ph.D. in
Curriculum and Instruction from Iowa State University). Currently I
am an Associate Professor of Education at the University of Arkansas
- Fort Smith.
We have two daughters, Cindy and Mary. Cindy married Padraic
Carolan, and they live in Vienna, VA, with their three children.
Mary married Garry Pshonik, and they live in West Des Moines. She is
a cellist with the Des Moines Symphony.
We enjoy traveling, and we like the warm climate here in the
Arkansas River Valley.
