Willard Riekena

WELLSBURG - Services for Willard T. Riekena, 63, were held here Tuesday from Doyen Funeral Home with, the Rev. Gideon Wolbrink officiating. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery here. Mr. Riekena, a former teacher in Iowa Falls, died of a stroke Saturday at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.

Willard T. Riekena was born Aug. 14,1912 on a farm near Wellsburg, the son of Trieno and Alice Geerdes Riekena. He attended rural schools and graduated from Wellsburg High School, Grundy Junior College and the University of Northern Iowa. He had taught at St. Anthony, Quimby and Rapid City, S. D., before coming to Iowa Falls in 1945.

In addition to classes at Iowa Falls High School, Mr. Riekena also taught mathematics and engineering drawing at Ellsworth Com­munity College. He was named "Teacher of the. Year" by the Iowa Falls Rotary Club in 1967 and retired from teaching. in 1973.  He attended Second Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg.

Survivors include two brothers, Jake of Reinbeck and John of Wellsburg, in addition to several nieces and nephews.  Mr. Riekena was ' preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a brother.
